A8 Inspecting Surfaces From a Normal Viewing Position

Generally, variations in the finished surfaces of walls, ceilings, floors and fixtures are to be viewed from a normal viewing position. A normal viewing position is the typical or standard way that something is viewed without magnification, artificial enhancement (ie, flashlight), contortion, unnatural or unusual angles, or abnormally close viewing. Finishes are viewed from a distance, angle, position or other such parameter(s) as specified in the guide.

Natural lighting conditions, whether indoors or outdoors, may affect the visibility of alleged defects. Observations are limited to the visibility of the surfaces and finishes as they exist at the time of assessment under the aforementioned conditions.
